1978 Honda CX500 Café Racer. This bike was just recently completed. It has an 07 gxsr 1000 fork conversion, and a rear mono shock from an ER6N. The seat is an OC café racer seat which also has removable cowl for a more “scrambler” look if desired.
The tank is raw steel to showcase the condition of the sheet metal. Overall the tank is in great condition but there are a few minor dings. The motor had approximately 12k miles on it when it when the project was started. The carburetors were rebuilt and re jetted for pod filters and straight exhaust (85mid/120main). Valve clearance was checked/adjusted, filters and fluids replaced. A new electrical harness was constructed and was wrapped in nylon braided loom. The keyed ignition switch was relocated under the right side of the tank, and under the left hand side of the tank is the start and headlight switch. Lighting is LED, the rear running light and headlight “halo” illuminate when bike is switched ON. A 4lb AGM battery was relocated under the motor in a custom fabricated battery box w/starter solenoid.
Fabrication wise, the old steering stops were removed and a new stop was welded to accommodate the new triple tree, the tank was moved back 1” to help maintain a decent turning radius with the new forks and raised in the rear to flatten the lines of the bike, a new rear mount was TIG welded onto the tank, and the entire subframe was fabricated to accommodate the mono shock conversion and new seat hoop. A custom license plate mount was constructed as well as modifications to the kickstand. Custom braided stainless front brake lines and custom length cables from motion pro help make up the controls. 2 into 1 exhaust wrapped in DEI titanium wrap.
