This golden-hued custom was born in the mountains of Asheville, NC, where it came to me as a partial basket-case. With its best days behind it and an already cut-up frame, I went to town building what you see here. After tearing down the top end, the cylinders were honed for new pistons and rings and the head was rebuild with all new valves and seals. Jetted carbs and new exhaust help this engine sing. The OG points system is intact, and the cam chain tensioner (a source of problems on these bikes) is in perfect working order. Electric start works, though it is usually a 1 kick bike once the carbs are full. A 4 cell antigravity battery is tucked under the seat and connects to the rest of the bike via a robust, bare-bones, and very tucked wiring harness. Though the harness is simplified and our-of-sight, this bike runs Revival cycles rear running light/turn signals and white/amber running light/turn signals up front, as well as a high-quality LED h4 bulb housed in the German-made headlight bucket, and all switches run through relays. There is also a horn tucked up under the tank. This bike rides on brand new laced wheels with black rims and new bearings, rebuilt forks, new rear shocks, new tires, and new seals just about everywhere. The cb400f is a wonderful bike in stock form, highly sought after and regarded as one of the best smaller displacement 4 cylinder bikes from the 70s. With 6 speeds and a rambunctious power to weight ratio (even better on this bike) there’s no wonder why people are snatching these machines up. This is a very cool iteration of a very sought-after bike, not a backyard built custom you’re likely to have seen when perusing internet sales sites for custom bikes and cafe racers. This bike was built by professional restoration mechanics with a long history of bike building. I have daily ridden this bike and have put most of the miles on it since it’s rebirth. Lightweight and high-revving, this bike is a blast for your city riding or mountain backroads. Did I say this bike is blast? This bike is a blast.
